These words were engraved on a surviving broken column from the burnt Tarnow synagogue, under which, in the cemetery, are buried thousands of Jews who were murdered by the Nazis.
There are no remains of the synagogue and no reminder of the names of those murdered in this mass grave. The sun was not ashamed when the innocents were murdered. Today, we do not want to be ashamed of the appearance of OUR cemetery.
Therefore, we call for assistance in restoring the Jewish cemetery from the “Shame of the Shameless”. The members of The Committee for the Protection of Jewish Heritage in Tarnow work as volunteers, and we are seeking financial support for our “own share” of funds that must be raised.
